batchelor tom - "every time it rains"

#

These are the lyrics to a rewrite of Garth Brooks's 'Every Time That It
Rains'. This version is written by Tom Batchelor.

(Kris sings)
Stuck ... in an airport in Austin
And all of the flights are delayed.
And as the rain keeps fallin'
The mem'ries keep callin' me back
To another time and place ...

Back to a rainy day in Minnesota
He was workin' at this roadside cafe.
It was just him and me
And looked like it would be
At least till the storms rolled away.

I played Long Neck Bottle on the jukebox
He said Hey that's my fav-o-rite song
The next thing I knew
The song was long through
But we were still singin' along.
With that look in his eyes he searched clumsily,
Then he pulled a pen from the apron he wore.
And with his crazy ideas and mine
We sang line by line
And wrote Long Neck Bottle verse number four!

(Tom sings)
Every time that it rains
I can see her face smiling
... It rains
I can hear that song crying.
The storm clouds rolled off
But the mem'ry remains
Every time that it rains.

One hot stormy day I got an E-mail
So I waited outside the cafe.
It was Kris and her dad,
And it looked like they had
Just enough space in their cab for three.
We sang and we laughed down I-90
Then we sat down for verse number five
But with the pen we both fumbled
And the words sorely crumbled
So they dropped me off in the nearest killer bee hive.

(Ooh, ahh, OUCH that hurts!
Better try that again ...)

We sang and we laughed down I-90
Then we sat down for verse number five
But with the words we both fumbled
So her dad brought the humbled Tom
Back home to Victory Drive.

(Kris sings)
Every time that it rains
I can see his face smiling
... It rains
I can hear that song crying
The storm clouds rolled off
But the mem'ry remains
Every time that it rains.

Now the rain was still poundin' the pavement
And I felt sad to see Tommy go
So dad put 'er in reverse,
I took the crumpled song from my purse,
This time we'd just let the words flow
Our dreams of being big singer-songwriters
Weren't so far off the wall
In the golden years to come
We wrote, picked and sang some
Never forgetting the friendship that started it all.

(Tom and Kris sing)
Every time that it rains
I can hear the beat poundin'
... It rains
Tom says Hey how's it soundin'?
The storm clouds roll on
But the good things remai-ai-ee-ain
Ev'rytime that it rains

everytime that it ra-ains
it's rainin' on me.
everytime everytime...
