For the last 40 days we've counted down the top 40 songs so that we'd end right here, on January 1, 2009, with our Top Country single of 2008.  If you've followed along you probably figured out this one'd be our favorite.  Now you can read what makes this song the best.

Former Lonestar lead vocalist Richie McDonald has released his debut single as a solo artist.  With a sound that recalls lonestar's biggest hits, the song certainly finds McDonald in fine voice.  The biggest question is whether fans and radio want him back enough to make the song a hit.

Richie Fields is but another in a long line of country artists who have come out in the past few years. While mainstream radio has turned away from the kind of vocalist that Richie is -think Conway Twitty-there should be a place for artists like him somewhere.
